Valiant effort not enough in defeat to Bryn Mawr

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA. (September 28, 2006) – The Lincoln University volleyball team began a season-ending four-game home stand with a 3-0 defeat to Bryn Mawr College at Manuel Rivero Hall Thursday night.

Despite a valiant effort in the third game that saw Lincoln lead by three points on two occasions, the Lions dropped the match 30-19, 30-18, 30-28. Lincoln's record fell to 3-15 overall while Bryn Mawr improved to 8-6.

Matthews also contributed four kills for the Lions. Sophomore Donneisha Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Harold S. Vincent) chipped in with six blocks and five digs. Junior Tasieka Cummings (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) notched six digs and four assists. The difference in the match was Lincoln's 16 serving errors.

Lincoln opened the third game by racing to a 4-0 lead. After Bryn Mawr took a 12-8 lead, Lincoln responded by grabbing a 15-13 advantage. The match see-sawed with both teams trading great plays and points. Lincoln took a 27-26 lead in the final game before Bryn Mawr scored two consecutive points to grab a 28-27 lead. Lincoln tied the game for the final time, 28-28, on a Matthews kill.

Lincoln will return to action in 12 days when it hosts King's College on Tuesday October 12 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
